Transitional Kindergarten Profile 2023-24

Your role as a District Assessment Coordinator (DAC) includes ensuring Transition to Kindergarten (TK) teachers and principal(s) implement the WaKIDS Whole-child Assessment. The purpose of this form is to assist districts in preparing to meet the assessment requirements according to the structure of your unique TK program. Please collaborate with necessary stakeholders in implementing TK in your district to answer questions for this survey.

Because TK programs may begin at any point between beginning of the school year and January 31st, each district that wishes to implement TK needs to identify the appropriate WaKIDS Whole-child Assessment deadline for their district’s TK program. To communicate expectations and monitor completion, please complete this form with your district’s plan for the TK in 2023-2024 school year.

OSPI will adopted emergency rules for 23-24 school year, please refer to this document.

Here are some important items for you to keep in mind concerning your TK implementation and when answering this survey:
1. WaKIDS Whole-child Assessment data for your TK students must be submitted and finalized by the 10th week from the program start date.
  • If 2 weeks of winter break is part of this 10-week assessment window, please add 2 more weeks into your count so you have a total of 12 weeks to complete the assessment. Any other breaks do not count.
2. The last day to begin a new TK program is January 31, 2024.
3. All TK teachers of record must successfully complete the WaKIDS 101 training in order to implement the assessment. Summer trainings run from July to October and there will be a training every month from November to February to allow TK teachers to be trained before they can implement all three components of WaKIDS. More information about the WaKIDS 101 training is available on our website
4. Monthly TK enrollment is required to be reported in CEDARS. Please submit your TK enrollment data to CEDARS at the time you report to P223.
  • Students participating in a Transitional Kindergarten program must be submitted to CEDARS as enrolled with the following information –
    • District Student File (B), Element B13 – Grade Level, with a grade level of K1 – all day Kindergarten
    • Attributes & Programs File (I), Element I06 – Attribute or Program Code, valid value 67 – Transitional Kindergarten
  • The CEDARS Reporting Guidance has information within a section titled Transitional Kindergarten on page 108. Supporting information regarding the appropriate grade level code to utilize is found in the section titled Grade Level Determination on page 20.
5. A new response to this survey will override all previous survey responses from your district. If you have any updates to your TK plan, please submit a new response.
