The Park Champion™ Initiative (PCI) is NRPA’s signature grassroots advocacy training program that provides our members with the information, skills and experience needed to be effective advocates for parks and recreation. The PCI will engage and educate members about the importance of actively advocating for their agency and communities, cultivating future industry leaders that will build influential relationships between constituents and government officials at the local, state and federal level.
As Park Champions™, NRPA members serve as year-round ambassadors for their community to their elected officials. With the support of the NRPA Public Policy and Advocacy team, Park Champions™ learn how to be effective advocates through combining data and storytelling, building inclusive coalitions, and sharing these best practices with their communities.
This train-the-trainer model enables Park Champions™ to build the movement of park and recreation across the country, starting in their communities.
NRPA will serve as a resource hub and strategic partner, empowering members to bring learnings back into their communities and mobilize local park and recreation movements sustainably.
