Yarra City Council is pleased to present a four-part series of
FREE club development workshops set to take place in 2023. These sessions will be catered specifically to Yarra’s community sporting organisations with a focus of capacity building of club volunteers.
The purpose of these sessions is to:
- Support clubs to meet the Sportsgrounds and Facilities Allocation Policy Criteria, and
- Upskill club volunteers in self-identified areas for development.
The
Sportsgrounds and Facilities Allocation Policy will be in place from the 2025/26 financial year. In preparation, Council aims to support clubs to meet the Policy's
Essential &
Framework Criteria and more importantly encourage best practice on and off the field. If you feel your club is fully competent in the topics offered, we still encourage you to attend the sessions to share ideas and network with other sporting groups within Yarra.

Session 2 Grant Availability and Writing, Volunteers, and Participation Programs
Grant Availability and Writing:
This part of the session will help grant writers to have a better chance of being successful in their grant applications. Topics covered will include:
- Understanding the various funding streams and categories available through Council's grants program,
- What can and can't be funded through Council's grants program, and
- Working through some FAQs when writing a grant application.
Participation Programs:
In this part of the session Yarra based sports clubs will share their experiences with running their own participation programs, the processes they went through, support they required and received and the impact these programs have had on their clubs.
