Collective Bargaining

The Prince William Board of County Supervisors directed staff to begin work on a collective bargaining ordinance during their meeting on Dec. 14, 2021. They provided direction to staff during their Feb. 8, 2022, meeting, and a draft ordinance was presented to the Board on May 24, 2022. The second draft was presented to the Board on Sept. 13, 2022, where the Board asked staff to make additional changes, and those changes were discussed during the Board's meeting on Oct. 18, 2022.

During their meeting on Nov. 22, the Board of County Supervisors adopted a Collective Bargaining Ordinance. The Board also directed staff to initiate a review of Chapter 19 of the County Code and any other relevant policies as they pertain to part-time, non-benefitted employees for the purpose of whether to amend the County Code to allow those employees be included in the Collective Bargaining Ordinance. The Board also committed to a 90-day review period of the ordinance to provide the community, employee organizations and other stakeholders additional time to provide input to the Board and county staff. The Board also directed staff to initiate a review of Chapter 19 of the County Code and any other relevant policies as they pertain to part-time, non-benefitted employees for the purpose of whether to amend the County Code to allow those employees be included in the Collective Bargaining Ordinance.
