Guidelines for submitting a nomination:
The Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award recognizes a faculty member who has had a positive influence on students through academic advising. The award recipient will receive a $2,000 cash stipend and will be recognized by the President at Fall Conference. Questions can be directed to Shelly Wolf (scwolf@calpoly.edu).
***All nominations are due by Monday, March 6, 2023 at 5:00 p.m.***
Previous recipients will not be allowed to win again. A faculty member is someone formally engaged in classroom and/or laboratory instruction. For your nomination to be considered, a brief narrative (300 words or less) about your nominee's qualifications will be required at the end of this survey. At least one submission for each nominee must come from a current student.
The selection committee is looking for a faculty member whose academic advising efforts rise to a level that deserves distinction. Your nomination may be based on areas listed below, but this list is not a comprehensive one. Please read the following information carefully.
Nomination is to be based upon the faculty’s academic advising efforts related to areas such as:
- Change of Major advising
- Study Abroad advising
- Senior project (planning, process, completion)
- Internship selection or supervision
- Career/graduate school planning and selection
- Major and support coursework selection, minor advising
- Concentration and elective coursework selection
- Navigating campus climate/issues related to diversity, inclusion and social justice, along with referral to appropriate support services
- Mentorship and guidance with academic challenges such as AP (academic probation), time management, course load, etc.
**Things that won't be taken into consideration for this award:
- Teaching styles and classroom experiences
- Club advising responsibilities
- Research mentorship
**You are encouraged to nominate this person for the Distinguished Teaching Award or for available college-specific or campus wide awards recognizing teaching excellence, club advising, or research.
