Eligibility Criteria:
o Undergraduate Cal Poly student (graduating no earlier than winter 2024, ability to work through June 2024)
o Upper-division, third or fourth year standing (by start of fall 2023)
o Minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA
o Must have a demonstrated interest in pursuing a health profession career
o Be available to work approximately 8-10 hours per week
o One year commitment (September ‘23-June ‘24)
o Students eligible for Federal Work Study are strongly encouraged to apply

Peer Advisor Job Description:
o Provide pre-health students with current and accurate information on various academic and career opportunities through one-on-one advising and through group advising workshops.This may be in person or virtual.
o Provide information to students on required prerequisite coursework, entrance exams, and the application process for various health professions.
o Assist pre-health students with creating a health profession timeline. This includes but is not limited to: when to take their prerequisite courses, when to take entrance exams, and when to apply to their program. Also, it includes incorporating when and how often to complete community service, leadership, and health-related activities that will be needed to be a competitive applicant to health professional programs.
o Plan and deliver presentations on health professions topics during club meetings, in first-year classes, and in residence halls, as requested.
o Update and maintain the pre-health blog and social media accounts.
o Provide reception and front desk services to students.
o Independently research health career information on the web. Bookmark informative sites and share web-based resources with students.
o Maintain health professions bulletin boards & Canvas site.
o Update health professions spreadsheets/binders/handouts and assist with on-going health professions projects as requested.
o Maintain a strong overall awareness of campus resources and new student issues.
o Refer students to appropriate campus resources as needed.
Additional Responsibilities/Skills Required:
o Ability to take initiative, follow through with tasks, and work well with minimum supervision.
o Ability to communicate effectively and be sensitive to students from varied cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
o Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and faculty as a team player.
o Occasional evening/weekend hours will be required when giving presentations.
o Must be available for training during the Summer of 2023 (dates TBA)
Please Note:
o The Pre-Health Peer Advisor position is contingent on funding for the 2023-2024 academic year. We will not know for certain whether our office will be given the budget to hire and pay peer advisors until the Summer of 2023. We are moving forward with the recruitment and interview process in the meantime, but we want all potential applicants to be aware of this before submitting an application.
o The Pre-Health Peer Advisor position may entail working remotely and meeting with students via Zoom depending on the status of the COVID-19 pandemic throughout the academic year.
