Try Teaching STEM Scholarship

The Try Teaching STEM Scholarship is aimed at reducing the financial barriers to becoming a K-12 teacher in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) fields.

Recipients of all scholarship levels will need to: 

  • Be a Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo student 
  • Sign up for CESAME listserv, text list
  • Attend at least one "Why I Teach" Conversation 
  • Take an annual teacher pathway survey

Recipients of the Inquiring ($250) scholarship will need to: 

  • Be pursuing a STEM major or LS math or science concentration OR be enrolled in EDUC 403: Developing Teachers of Color  

Recipients of the Pathway ($500) and Credential ($2,000-$4,000) scholarships will need to: 

  • Be pursuing a STEM major or LS math or science concentration
  • Sign an intent to teach (Pathway)
  • Apply for a Cal Poly credential program (Credential)

To begin the application for the $2,000-$4,000 credential scholarship you must meet 3 of the following requirements, check all the requirements to confirm they have been completed. Please note, the final amount awarded will depend on financial need.  *This question is required.
3. What Try Teaching programs have you participated in this academic year? Please check all that apply: *This question is required.
4. Have you attended a “Why I Teach” presentation yet? 

The next presentation dates are May 8, 2023 at 4:30PM and June 1, 2023 at 5:00PM. See the website for details on these events.  *This question is required.
