Music: Artwork based on Nina Simone’s song Mississippi Goddam and Mahalia Jackson’s song Keep Your Hand on the Plow.

Monologue: Artwork based on Langston Hughes’s Negro Soldier and Freedoms Plow, Slave Narratives and Quotes: Selected moments in the lives of Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass, Mary McLeod Bethune, Cicely Tyson, Paul Robeson, James Baldwin (Selected information will be provided upon request).

Poetry: Artwork based on Langston Hughes’s Mother to Son.

We are looking for new work that has not been juried into Open Space Arts Gallery.

Tell us about yourself: A brief bio of the artist and a good quality shoulder length photo of yourself suitable for reproduction (2x2 inch at 300 dpi) sent as an attachment to shawonesent@gmail.com.
Participants must be 18 years of age or older and reside in Prince William County or be a member of a PWC art group, unless the Call for Art is specified as a student art show. Participants are encouraged to have available their business cards during the show.
 
ONLINE ENTRY SPECIFICATIONS:

All artwork file formats must use the form: file name, last name-first initial (ex: Harvest Moon_Smith-H.jpg)

Please crop any frame or background out of the photo to show only the artwork.

Image Formats: JPG        File Size: 5MB or less

Subject Matter: Original two-dimensional artwork to include paintings, drawings, photography, lithographs, screen prints, woodcuts, collages, etchings, and monotypes. Three-dimensional work such as sculpture and ceramics are welcomed, as well as handcrafted jewelry. Family-friendly subject matter. Reproductions on canvas or photographic copies of original two-dimensional artwork will not be accepted for display.

Every artist takes responsibility for their own original artwork - that the work has no copyright issues. Neither Prince William County, Prince William County Arts Council, JBG Smith, or Prince William Art Society will assume responsibility for any lawsuit resulting from misuse of another artist’s work.

All artworks must be for sale (no artwork is Not for Sale [NFS]).

Sculpture pieces are the responsibility of the artist for pickup, delivering and securing the art to the wall as needed.

Standard PWAS framing and display requirements apply. Improperly wired paintings or artwork will not be accepted. All wires should be located at least 3 inches from the top edge of the work. All unframed canvases must be gallery wrapped (or stapled on back) and the sides must be painted.

Framed artwork on paper must be both matted and framed with a wire across the back.  All accepted entries will remain on exhibit until the exhibition closes on January 29, 2023. No early withdrawals will be permitted unless artwork is SOLD by OSA. Artists may replace SOLD pieces with another juried piece of similar size and quality or with an approved piece by the selection committee.

Labeling: The artist is responsible for placing labels on each accepted artwork. For hanging artwork, this would be on the back of the piece. For sculptures, this would be on the bottom of the sculpture. Each such label must have the Artist Name, Title of the piece, Medium, and Price. If you are hanging a series then each piece of the series must be marked on the back to indicate the hanging order with left/right, top/bottom, A, B, C, D or 1, 2, 3, 4, as appropriate.

OSA will print labels to display for the public viewing.

 
LARGE WORKS OSA MAIN GALLERY

A maximum of 8 pieces of art per member for the Main Gallery (equivalent 16x20 inches or larger, or a minimum of 320 square inches). Artwork series of works that can be grouped as one unit (or themed works) must be a minimum of 320 square inches. The canvas can be a minimum of 11x14 inches for example which would require a series of four pieces. Diptychs, triptychs and quadriptychs are acceptable up to four pieces. Each piece of a series will count toward the Large Works total, whether sold as a group or priced to sell individually. Mark the back of the canvas the order to hang as needed. MEDIUM/SMALL WORKS OSA SHELVES GALLERY

A maximum of 6 pieces of art per member for the Shelf Works Gallery (SIZE requirements are art pieces that are 80 to 144 square inches (e.g., 12x12, 10x10, 8x10). Small adjustable Lucite easels will be used for display (provided by PWAS and are NOT for sale with the art piece). Submit these as attachments to shawonesent@gmail.com

SMALL/MINIATURE WORKS GLASS CASES GALLERY

A maximum of 6 pieces of art per member for the glass cases or the 2 glass cabinets. (SIZE requirements for paintings and artwork are 8x8 inches or less, or maximum of 64 square inches. Pottery works will need to be under 8 inches to fit in the tall glass cabinets). Submit these as attachments to shawonesent@gmail.com

ART PRINTS

Art prints may be offered for sale of the artwork accepted for the juried art show. (Art prints of work not on display will not be accepted). Artists may bring up to 5 prints maximum of their juried work properly wrapped with stiff backing of their artwork on display, following the PWAS Display Requirements. That means no more than 5 prints, not 5 prints of each juried piece. Prints will be stored in a specific print stand location, with the original artwork noted with “Prints Available” on its label.
Judges’ decisions are final. You will receive a confirmation email after a submission has been made/received. For question or submission issues, contact Penny Shaw at (540) 764-0874 or shawonesent@gmail.com.
 
17. TERMS and CONDITIONS

All selected artists are encouraged to have works insured during the period of display and will assume full responsibility and liability for loss or damage as a participant in this event. Neither Prince William County, the PWC Arts Council, Prince William Arts Society or JBG Smith will assume responsibility for the works and/or any loss or damage that occurs during this event. The participants will be responsible for their own delivery and pickup of work based on the times and deadlines indicated in this entry for and follow-up of acceptance. Delivery and pickup of art must be done via the back door of the gallery. At the end of the art show’s changeover, art CANNOT be removed from the wall until Sunday at 5:00 pm/or the last visitor has left the gallery. If you are unable to pick up your art during the stated hours, you must arrange for someone else to pick it up for you.

Prince William County Arts Council and the Prince William Art Society support artists from diverse cultural, ethnic, and sexual backgrounds. PWCAC and PWAS do not discriminate based on age, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexuality, or ability/disability of artists during this process.

The selected artists must abide by the work and place policy.
