WREN – Lived Experience Toolkit

Introduction

The St Giles WREN Lived Experience (LE) Toolkit is designed as:
  • A self-assessment tool for organisations to review how they are including and using lived experience in their work and be able to plan further development
  • Access to a range of resources to help organisations develop their lived experience approaches and practice

Utilising the power of lived experience is part of overall organisational development. This toolkit isn’t designed to provide generic resources for organisational development. Many of these can be found on reputable websites such as the National Council for Voluntary Organisations. Instead, the toolkit gives you suggestions about how you can introduce, embed and use lived experience to its maximum potential in your organisation.

How to use the toolkit

Each of the six sections of the toolkit starts with a series of statements for organisations to assess themselves against and to identify their priorities for lived experience development planning. You can choose which elements you want to include in a lived experience action plan that will be automatically created when you complete the self-assessment.

After the statements in each section there is a range of resources to access through links that take you to more detailed explanations, websites, videos, templates and tips. There are many other resources out there and the toolkit isn’t intended to be exhaustive but to provide a starting point. Basic quality checks have been carried out on resources but they are included for guidance, ideas and stimulating discussion rather than as the only or best ways for your organisation to work.
