Please review the mentoring commitments before creating a mentor profile
The iC.A.R.E. Mentoring® program is about building caring, authentic relationships between the mentor and the mentee. Mentors are patient, caring listeners, committed to building self-esteem, self-confidence, and resiliency with their mentee.
1. The commitment is one hour, one day a week, for an entire school year with the intent of continuing a second year.
2. iC.A.R.E. Mentoring® program is a school-based program and no contact or communication outside of the school between mentors, mentees and parents/guardians is permitted.
3. Matches are made based on information entered in the Mentor Profile such as mentor’s availability, school preference, age preference, gender preference, and interests. The more accurate the mentor profile, the higher the likelihood of creating a successful mentor/mentee match.
4. All mentors must complete mandatory training prior to mentoring.
5. BCI/FBI background checks are required of all mentors before they can start mentoring. Random background checks are possible after a mentor has started mentoring.
6. Mentors complete a brief online report of their mentoring session after each meeting.
7. Information about the mentee or their family is private and must be kept confidential unless the mentee’s safety or welfare is affected.
8. If the mentee moves to another school in the school district the mentor needs to be willing to follow the mentee to their new school if possible.
