Asbestos Designated Person - FREE for Environmental & Planning Members
This class addresses areas defined in the AHERA regulations for those responsible for the school’s asbestos program. Topics covered include:
- Asbestos detection, identification, and assessment
- Health effects associated with asbestos exposure
- Control options
- Relevant federal and state regulations
- Management plan components
This class satisfies the current training requirements put forth in AHERA for Asbestos Designated Person training. Although there are currently no refresher requirements, we recommend to repeat this class every few years to keep relevant asbestos issues and requirements fresh on you mind.
Integrated Pest Management Coordinator - FREE for Environmental & Planning Members
This course meets the requirements outlined by the Texas Structural Pest Control Services department within the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) for training a school district’s Integrated Pest Management (IPM) coordinator. Topics include:
- Regulatory requirements
- Administration of IPM in school pest control programs
- Principles of IPM
- Pesticide safety practices
This class satisfies the requirements for both the initial IPM Coordinator training and provides all six continuing education units as required by the regulations to be completed every three years.
Indoor Air Quality Coordinator - FREE for Environmental & Planning Members
This course is designed to help school officials manage indoor air quality complaints and concerns in a timely manner. Attendees receive information necessary to establish a foundation for a good indoor air quality program. Topics will include: EPA Tools for Schools Program, ventilation problems, mold, bacteria, odors and the tools to help with crisis intervention when it comes to complaints about air quality within a building.
Best Practices: Maintenance and Operations - FREE for Environmental & Planning Members
Participants will explore points of emphasis for the effective and efficient operation of a school maintenance, operations, and grounds departments. This course will examine staffing, processes, training, equipment and best practices for custodial services, maintenance, and grounds. Topics discussed will also include:
- Preventative maintenance
- Facility assessment
- Routine process scheduling
- Work order processing
Asbestos 2 Hour Awareness Training - FREE for Environmental & Planning Members
This online course meets the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) regulation for employee Asbestos Awareness Training.
This class is to be administered to all maintenance and custodial staff who may work in a building that contains Asbestos Containing Building Materials (ACBM) including part-time and contracted staff, as well as any other employees who may encounter ACBM in the routine course of their work, or have cleaning in their job description (electricians, heating/air conditioning engineers, IT staff, plumbers, kitchen staff, etc). New employees must be trained within 60 days of hire. There are no refresher requirements for this training. Topics covered include:
- Information regarding asbestos and its uses and forms
- Health effects associated with asbestos exposure
- Recognition of damage, deterioration, and delamination of ACBM
Additional district-specific information will need to be supplemented by the district’s appointed Asbestos Designated Person as part of this training.

Maintenance & Operations Foundations
$950/attendee for Environmental & Planning Members
$1,250/attendee for non-members
M&O Foundations is an essential 2-day introductory training class designed for new maintenance directors working in public school districts in Texas.
This foundational course provides a comprehensive understanding of the administrative responsibilities involved in multi-service area operations, including maintenance, grounds, transportation, and custodial services. Participants will gain insight into leadership, strategic planning, budgeting, staffing, goal setting, and adherence to standards within these areas. Serving as a critical starting point, this course lays the groundwork for future professional development and equips participants with the tools and resources to grow and excel in their roles.
Attendees with have breakfast and lunch provided each day and will receive handouts and templates to take with them to assist with setting up the foundations for their operation programs.

The non-member class fees are as follows:
Asbestos Designated Person - $450/person and will be invoiced upon completion of the class.
Integrated Pest Management Coordinator - $450/person and will be invoiced upon completion of the class.
Indoor Air Quality Coordinator - $450/person and will be invoiced upon completion of the class.
Best Practices: Operations & Maintenance - $450/person and will be invoiced upon completion of the class.
Maintenance & Operations Foundations - $1,250/person and will be invoiced on September 1, 2025.

This online course suffices as an initial or as a refresher training, but if taken online, the next refresher training MUST be attended in-person.
