Lincoln Park Mural Survey

After 10 years of fielding requests for how to fund the beautification of the once plain ugly grey retaining wall at the center of Lincoln Park, Angelica Pozo came up with a plan and formed Tremont Community Artist in Residence (TCAIR) in 2014 to be able to apply for grants. Over the course of 2 years community fundraising efforts and multiple successful grants, Tremont’s Heart, Soul and History were depicted in tile and installed on that wall in June 2016.

Over time, the wall began heaving large amounts of moisture up from the ground, indicating that when it was initially built, there was not a sufficient footer poured below the ground to prevent this. The wall would continue to repeatedly make tiles fall off after each winter’s freeze and thaw because of its insufficient construction. So for now TCAIR will be salvaging any fallen or loose tiles.

This winter, Angelica will be looking for volunteers to help with cleaning off of mortar and sorting out the tiles in anticipation of the future of the tiles and the wall. Thank you for taking this survey so that the community's voice can decide on this future.
