SurgeryU Editor-in-Chief Application

SurgeryU delivers high-quality, high-definition surgical videos to members of the AAGL through live streaming events and an on-demand video library. Every presentation delivered through the SurgeryU platform has been peer reviewed to ensure the best content related to minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. SurgeryU is the only surgical video library in the world dedicated to minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.

SURGERYU EDITOR-IN-CHIEF JOB DESCRIPTION  
The Editor-in-Chief of SurgeryU will be tasked with publishing the most authoritative, innovative, and highest quality videos on the platform.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must be a current AAGL member with continuous membership in good standing for the past 5 years.
  • Candidate must have a minimum of 2 years of experience serving as an editor for either a print or electronic publication.
  • Candidate must demonstrate international experience in the medical field and have been recognized for their contributions through published research, presentations, and appointments.
  • Candidate must be an MD or DO.
The SurgeryU EiC will perform the editorial obligations in a manner consistent with the highest standards of professionalism, competence, integrity, and ethics, and will not engage in any conduct that may bring harm or disrepute upon the journal or AAGL. On an annual basis, the EiC and members of the Editorial Board will be required to disclose any financial or non-financial relationships with industry and/or other organizations and are expected to recuse themselves from the review of any articles where there is a conflict of interest or perceived conflict of interest. During the term(s), the EiC will not serve as editor or in a senior editorial position for any competing video archive, publication, or product and agrees not to serve as an officer or director of a society or organization that owns or publishes a competing video archive, publication, or product.

Editor-in-Chief Responsibilities:
  • The Editor-in-Chief, in conjunction with the AAGL office, manages all Interactive Media content on the AAGL website and is ultimately responsible to the AAGL Board of Directors.
  • The Editor-in-Chief is to ensure the consistency of SurgeryU programs with the strategy and vision of the AAGL.
  • The Editor-in-Chief will meet at least quarterly with the Editorial Board to discuss updates/improvements to the site and discuss upcoming projects.
  • The Editor-in-Chief and the Managing Editors of the AAGL (Executive Director, Director of Operations) will work in conjunction with each other regarding the projects involving all SurgeryU offerings to ensure consistency of projects and their implementation into the AAGL’s general strategy. 
  • The Editor-in-Chief sets the media publications/programs’ standards for performance and motivates staff in concert with and in support of the vision and projects of the AAGL. 
  • The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for strategic and operational planning. 
  • The Editor-in-Chief acts as an ambassador of the AAGL and SurgeryU nationally and internationally.
  • The Editor-in-Chief is involved in the development of programs targeted to the advancement of sponsorship of the AAGL SurgeryU platform. 
  • At a scheduled AAGL Board of Directors meeting, the Editor-in-Chief will report the status and developments of SurgeryU and will present an educational calendar as established with input from the SurgeryU Board.
  • The Editor-in-Chief, will involve, when reasonable, the officers of the AAGL (chairs of the committees, task forces, and or JMIG Editor-in-Chief, SIG chairs) in projects involving their area of work. 
  • The Editor-in-Chief formulates the agenda for the Editorial Board conference calls.
Editor-in-Chief Term:
  • The SurgeryU Editor-in-Chief has a contracted term of 3 years. The Board may approve 1 additional year.

The AAGL SurgeryU Editor Search Committee review all applications and will choose the new EiC by November 2022. To maintain quality continuity, the incoming EiC will work alongside the current SurgeryU EiC, Suketu Mansuria, MD, until the official transition in January 2023.
