Heggerty Training for Kindergarten/Primary Spanish Curriculum (2022) The What, Why and How: Spanish Heggerty Curriculum Overview and Implementation

This 90-minute session will highlight the what and the why of phonemic and phonological awareness. Participants will gain an understanding of why this work is important not just in English literacy development, but Spanish literacy development as well. In addition to building an understanding around phonological awareness, participants will learn about the importance of cross-linguistic transfer in bilingual and dual language settings. After building a background in phonological and phonemic awareness, participants will learn how to implement the Spanish curriculum in their classrooms. A lesson will be modeled for the participants, and participants will be able to see the progression of skills for the Spanish curriculum over the course of the year. A brief comparison of how the English and Spanish curriculum are similar and different will be shared.
