Input Opportunity: White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health

This September, President Biden will convene the second White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health. The first conference, held in 1969, resulted in recommendations that led to the creation of WIC within five years. This is a pivotal opportunity to reorient national dialogues about nutrition and set the tenor for the next 50 years.

President Biden has indicated that the Conference will focus on two goals: ending hunger by 2030 and reducing chronic diet-related conditions, such as obesity, diabetes, and hypertension. To reach these goals, the Conference will be oriented around five pillars: improving food access and affordability, integrating nutrition and health, empowering all consumers to make and have access to healthy choices, supporting physical activity for all, and enhancing nutrition and food security research.

We welcome input from the WIC community as NWA prepares its own recommendations for the Conference. We encourage bold, forward-looking ideas, including ideas that extend beyond the four corners of WIC services.
