MassDOT EV Infrastructure Deployment Plan

Introduction

Introduction

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is working to develop an Electric Vehicle (EV) Infrastructure Deployment Plan as required by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act’s National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program. Through the NEVI program, Massachusetts will receive approximately $55-60 million in federal funding, over five years, if our Plan is approved by the Federal Highway Administration.

These formula funds are available for supporting the construction and operation of direct current fast charging (DCFC) stations along major highway corridors as designated by the Federal Highway Administration. DCFC stations can charge a typical passenger vehicle within 15 to 30 minutes. While most charging sessions for electric vehicles currently take place at drivers’ homes and destinations, fast charging along corridors can help ease “range anxiety” for those concerned about taking trips that fall outside of the range of an electric vehicle.

MassDOT is seeking stakeholder input on key questions to be addressed by the MassDOT NEVI Plan. These questions will provide important context and knowledge for the plan development process and responses to these questions will be considered by the project team as the NEVI Plan is developed. This Plan must be submitted to the Federal Government’s Joint Office of Energy and Transportation no later than August 1st, 2022.

All questions are optional; respondents may provide information on any subset of questions in this survey. All responses will be treated as a public record. All are welcome to respond to these questions.

Responses are most helpful if received by May 31st, 2022.
