Course Evaluation

The session will explore the application of a trauma-informed approach to providing transgender affirmative care to the trans community. Through our direct client care experience we will teach you the standard of care necessary to serve the transgender community in addiction and mental health treatment facilities. We will discuss in detail the trauma of gender dysphoria and how to treat the trauma of gender dysphoria. We will outline the life-saving interventions paramount to serve the trans community. These will include medical interventions, family interventions, and social interventions. You will learn the do’s and dont's when working with transgender individuals. The goal is to leave this workshop with a cultural shift that is pertinent to providing transgender-affirming care.

Donna Weinberger, CEO, is at the forefront of behavioral healthcare for LGBTQIA+ individuals by challenging age-old traditional systems. Donna encourages their staff by providing continuing education to commit a standard of care for the LGBTQIA+ community with addiction through trauma-informed LGBTQIA+ affirming, life-saving interventions.

Jaki Neering, LCSW has a loving & progressive approach working with the LGBTQIA+ community. Jaki graduated from Barry University in 2016 with a Master of Social Work degree. Jaki believes in the power of trauma-informed interventions, which recognizes human vulnerability but focuses on finding strengths, resources, and capacity for healing and recovery by promoting factors that will enhance a person’s resiliency.
Course learning objectives:
• Leave here understanding why a cultural shift is imperative to transgender affirming care.
• Learn do’s and don’ts when working with transgender clients.
• Examine key factors of trauma-informed affirmative care.
• Understand the trans experience and learn some general information when working with trans people.
• Discuss bias, stereotypes and discrimination that transgender people face daily.
