2022 NYC Nonprofit Board DEIA Training Series Application

A Strategic Approach to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility for NYC Nonprofit Boards

Overview

NYC Service is excited to announce the third iteration of our popular training series, A Strategic Approach to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility for Nonprofit Boards, a free, introductory 2-part training series for nonprofit executives.

This virtual training series for nonprofit executives and board members is based on NYC Service 2018 Report recommendations and aims to move away from a surface-level understanding of DEIA to focus on building a deepened and common framework that works to harness board support and action.

More specifically, attendees will learn how to:
  • Articulate a common language around DEIA and its benefits
  • Build the internal support and the infrastructure to mobilize change
  • Create strategic (and tangible) DEIA goals and practices for implementation
  • Dedicate the board and organization to sustained awareness and accountability
This training is for New York City Nonprofit board members and Executive Directors/CEOs from across the 5 boroughs and representing different sub-sectors. Trainings are hosted by NYC Service and facilitated by DEIA nonprofit board development specialist Eboné Bishop, Esq.

Trainings will be held virtually this summer on the following dates:
  • Session I: Thursday, June 16, 2022 - 10:00 am - 11:30 am
  • Session II: Thursday, June 23, 2022 - 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Eligibility
Please note this training series is intended for existing 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations in NYC, and nonprofit executives with some very basic knowledge of DEIA.

Please note that spots are limited. Preference will be given to organizations that commit the attendance of both the ED/CEO and a board member at every training due to the nature of some activities taking place during the trainings. Executive Directors/CEOs and board members MUST EACH submit separate applicationsFor organizations that are run by the board and do not have an executive position, the Board President may apply in addition to another board member.

In order to be eligible for consideration, organizations must complete the application for this training no later than 5pm Friday, May 20, 2022. If you have any questions about this training series, please email Senior Advisor of Strategic Partnerships, Tashawn Morgan (tmorgan@cityhall.nyc.gov)
