CTWB Study Pre-Screening

Welcome and thank you for your interest in participating in our study on Mindful Compassion Training and Social Well-Being. We are excited about the potential for this research to help advance compassion science and greatly value the role of everyone who participates.

Who can participate? We’re seeking participants in USA between the ages of 18-65 who are interested and ready for an 8-week compassion training program, in relatively good health, and have not taken a similar course on compassion in the past.

What's the study about? This study is focused primarily on understanding how compassion training may improve social well-being in ways that matter for both trainees and those with whom they interact.

What are the key details? The study involves random assignment to a free Mindful Compassion Training occurring in either Fall 2022 and Spring 2023, during evening hours of a weekday from 6:30-8:30 PM Mountain Time (for Fall 2022, the class will be Tuesdays from 6:30-8:30PM). Additionally, there will be a half-day retreat one Saturday morning toward the end of the course.

The study also includes completing two surveys (~45 min. each) before and after the Fall 2022 training, as well as two weeks of end-of-day surveys (~10-15 min. each day for seven days) before and after the Fall training. All study procedures, including the training itself, will be completed entirely online.

How can I take the course for free? All qualifying participants will receive the WELCOME program free of charge. Additionally, participation in the study (including the completion of study measures and training sessions) will earn participants a minimum financial award of $50 and additional bonus of $50 once all study procedures are complete. Finally, participants who complete all study procedures and 90% of daily surveys will be entered into a drawing for an estimated 1/6 chance of winning $150.

What's the first step? On the next page, you will be presented with our Pre-Screening Form, which asks a number of questions that pertain to eligibility criteria for the study goals and procedures. All data you provide will be kept strictly confidential, and only be available to study personnel for the purposes of determining your eligibility.

We expect the pre-screening will take about 5 minutes to complete.

What happens after the pre-screening? A member of our team will follow-up by email (within 1-2 weeks) to let you know about your personal eligibility for the study. Pending eligibility, you would then be asked to complete your first round of surveys. You will then be randomly assigned to take the training in either Fall 2022 or Spring 2023.
