Optimising boilers to reduce household emissions - sign up for updates

Nesta is running a project to investigate how to encourage and support people to optimise their boiler by turning down the flow temperature.

We’ll be answering questions such as:

  • How can households be best supported and encouraged to lower their boiler’s flow temperature?

  • Do households that turn down their flow temperature use less energy in practice?

  • Are homes still warm and comfortable enough for households using a lower flow temperature?

  • Are there specific factors that cause households to turn their boiler temperature back up?

  • If lowering the flow temperature is largely successful, how might we scale up the solution to reach as many households as possible?

We want to work in the open and share our research methods and findings throughout the project. By doing so, other innovators will be able to make use of the work we’ve done for their own projects sooner rather than later, which is vital when working on projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It’ll also allow us to receive and act on important feedback to improve the next phase of our project, while we’re still working on it. Read more about the project on the Nesta website
