LWVC Action Request Form
Please complete this form if you would like to take action on a state issue. We will do our best to respond within 5 business days.
When to use this request form:Depending on what type of action you would like to take, you will need to get prior permission from the state League or provide advance notice of your plans. You may do that by completing this form. Here is an overview of what steps you will need to take based on the type of planned action:
Requests for Action on State Bills. Local Leagues may request action on a state bill. Please cite the bill and the reason for the request. This could be a state bill that applies specifically to the local area, or it could be on an issue that is of particular interest to the local League.
In-District Advocacy. Local League members doing state-related advocacy or implementation work in their local districts must first get approval from their local League president (this includes contacting your state representatives).
- Advance notice of in-district state-related advocacy or implementation work should be provided to the state League at least 5 business days before the planned action.
- Any statements should be made by the local League president or their designee.
- In some cases, we may ask you either to hold off on taking action, or to focus on a particular message.
- Even if the state League has a position on a bill, you need to have explicit permission before you act. Check out the Bill Status Report to see which bills we are acting on.
State-related advocacy or implementation work in coalition with other local Leagues requires prior approval from both all relevant local League president(s) and the state League.
State Advocacy or any kind of outreach to other state orgs (like the ACLU, Common Cause, etc.) or state government agencies by local Leagues or state League Interest Group members, for either educational or advocacy purposes, should be done only after getting permission from the state League.
