Bay of Plenty Water Sports and Recreation Facility Survey - Community

Introduction

Sport Bay of Plenty in partnership with Sport New Zealand, Tauranga City Council, Western Bay of Plenty District Council, Kawerau District Council, Whakatane District  Council, Opotiki District Council and Rotorua Lakes Council are developing of a Bay of Plenty Water Sports and Recreation Facility Plan. The Plan will cover coastal waters, inland lakes and riversThe first stage is undertaking a review of:

  • Water Access Facilities that help get you to-the-water and/or into it (e.g. boat ramps, slipways, jetties, access points etc.)
  • Activity Support Facilities that are by-the-water and help you do your water sport and recreation activities (e.g. carparking, trailer parking, clubrooms, storage, marinas, toilet/changing rooms etc.)
  • Activity-Specific Facilities/Areas that are on-the-water and provide for specific activities (e.g. waterski/powerboat lanes, rowing/paddling race courses, surf breaks, whitewater sections/features etc.)

As part of this first stage, this survey is being run to help build a stocktake inventory of these ‘water recreation facilities’.

The survey asks about;

  • what specific facilities there are that are important for your water sport and recreation activities;
  • where they are located;
  • what condition they are in and if there are any key problems with them; and
  • any key issues or improvement opportunities about them for the future.

The survey results will be publicly available in summary form and the subsequent Water Sports and Recreation Facility Plan will be used to improve the accessibility and opportunities for these water sport and recreation activities in the Bay of Plenty so it’s a very important opportunity to have your say about them.
