First Steps


Join First Steps at the Education Fund!  

What is First Steps?

First Steps will provide additional support to eligible learners who live or work in the State of California. This additional support is acquired through early access to the Preparation and Critical Skills programs listed below. 

Preparing for a new job means getting the right tools and building a strong foundation. The Education Fund can help! What do you need to add to your toolbox?
  • Laptop and MiFi Lending Program — You are eligible to participate in the Laptop and MiFi Lending Program, which offers the use of a Chromebook and a portable mobile hotspot for the duration of this program. 
  • Computer Training — Build on those skills for digital fluency by attending Developing Basic Computer Skills and a short one-hour Microsoft-focused course. Total of 4 hours web-based live instruction.
  • Introduction to Online Learning — Self-paced, non-credit online resource to support any learner planning to move into a virtual learning environment. Total of a 2-hour online course separated into four modules. 
  • Telehealth Basics  — Online self-paced telehealth basics training. Total of a 1-hour online course separated into four modules. 
  • Foundational Math and Science; Medical Terminology — Online, self-paced six-week academic coursework program. Winter 2022 Registration Closed
  • Online English Language Learning (Clases de Ingles) — Online self-paced platform to improve your English level proficiency provided through a one-year subscription program.
