WONCA North America Region President Application Form

The AAFP is a member organization of the World Organization of National Colleges, Academies and Academic Associations of General Practitioners/Family Physicians (Wonca), and a part of Wonca’s North America Region. Leadership of the region rotates within the countries of the North America Region; the AAFP is seeking nominations for North America Region president for the next biennial cycle (2021-2023), which begins with the next virtual Wonca World Conference in November 2021. This is a volunteer position. Please note travel reimbursement from Wonca below.

The nominee must be an AAFP Active member with experience in leadership global health, internationally or within the United States. Demonstrated activities to advance health equity are preferred, as well as affiliation and networking with other global health related organizations.

Time Commitment of WONCA North America President
  • Executive Teleconference every 4-6 weeks at 12:00 UTC to accommodate all time zones.
  • Face-to-face meeting or a longer online Executive meeting of the full Executive every 6-8 months. These meetings usually last 2-3 days with a busy agenda and many papers for consideration, such as Executive acts on behalf of the Council between Council meetings. The venue varies for these meetings but is often linked to another Wonca meeting.
Wonca Financial Support of Wonca North America President
  • Any member of the Wonca Executive undertaking duties, visits or trips on behalf of Wonca will be reimbursed for travel and accommodation if the event is approved by the Wonca President or CEO. 
  • For face-to-face meetings, Wonca covers the cost of economy class airfare and accommodation, and provides a per diem of $60. This includes the day before and after travel. 
  • All Regional Presidents are allocated a small annual budget that can be used for traveling or for other purposes for the region. 
Application Process
  • Please complete and submit the online application by August 6, 2021.
  • Application must include a letter of recommendation from the nominee’s state AAFP Chapter.
  • Applicants will be notified if they have been selected by August 18, 2021, and will be expected to participate in virtual meetings in November 2021 as well as preparation for these meetings.
