2021 Forum/Marga Inc. Racial Equity Peer Learning Exchange for Members of PSOs

The United Philanthropy Forum is pleased to partner with Marga Incorporated (Inc.) to pilot an initiative that engages four PSOs in bringing their respective members together in four unique peer learning cohorts. Each cohort of PSO members will participate in a series of three learning exchanges. Each learning exchange will be 3.5 hours in length and will be scheduled roughly 3 months apart.

Intended Outcomes for Learning Exchange Series

By the end of the series of facilitated discussions, participants will be able to:
  • Connect with a peer network of leaders who are manifesting a commitment to racial equity, diversity, and inclusion in policies, practices, systems, and operations;
  • Identify practical ways to revise priorities, systems, and operations as it aligns with a commitment to racial equity, diversity, and inclusion;
  • Leverage peer exchange to enable concrete and practical changes and improvements in their foundation; and
  • Champion racially equitable and inclusive policies and practices at their foundation.
Factors for PSOs to consider in selecting foundations:
  • This is not a racial equity 101 training and is intended for funders who have a foundational level of knowledge about structural racism and have begun to address racial equity and inclusion at their foundation. It is recommended that the same participants commit to attending all three learning exchanges.
  • In order to allow for greater depth of discussion it is recommended that each cohort include no more than 8 foundations and no more than 3 representatives per foundation.
  • All attendees must be working on implementing racial equity and inclusion policies and practices in their foundations, though they may represent a range of roles within their foundation (program, operations, finance, HR, communications etc.)
  • PSOs should prioritize applicants who are in a position to influence their foundation’s practices whether because they are at a managerial level or are participating in an organizational racial equity or DEI process or team.
