Introduction
Kooth Plc provides digital mental health services. You have responded to our open call for survey responses from men between the ages of 26 - 45 years old from ethnic minority backgrounds. Before completing the survey, it is important to understand why we are asking for responses to this survey and what it will involve for you. Please take some time to read this information carefully. If there is anything that is not clear to you, or if you would like more information, please contact Kooth’s Participation team via the email address provided below.
Purpose of the research
We want to understand how we could improve and develop our service for men from diverse ethnic minority backgrounds between the ages of 26-45 years. This survey is part of a wider piece of work to engage with men from ethnic minority backgrounds in order to develop more accessible and engaging digital mental health support. The survey data will inform further questions and exploratory work with the individuals we’re engaging with.
Why have I been invited?
We are inviting men between the ages of 26 - 45 years old from ethnic minority backgrounds to share their insights and experiences of mental health support.
What will happen if I take part?
If you are happy to submit a survey, you will be asked to provide consent to a number of statements before completing this survey to ensure that you have understood what you have read on this page, how data will be collected and stored for this project and your rights to withdraw from this.
This is a completely anonymous questionnaire, we will not be asking for any identifiable information from you. The data collected from the questionnaire will be stored securely on a Kooth secure device, which is password protected. It will be deleted after 5 years of the storage date. Select individuals from Kooth will have access to this data, only where necessary to support this work. We will not attempt to collect any information from you that you do not voluntarily provide, such as your IP address.
Do I have to take part?
It is your decision on whether you would like to complete this survey. The survey should take 5-10 minutes. The questionnaire contains both quick short questions and some that require more thought and time to complete. If there are any questions you’re not sure about, please feel free to skip these questions by pressing the down arrow.
Will I receive any payment for taking part?
At the end of the survey you will be asked to name a charity of your choice. In respect of the time you spend on this, we will enter your survey into a random prize draw and one winner will have a £50 donation made to a charity of their choice.
What do I need to be mindful of when taking part?
There is a possibility some of the questions might make you feel uncomfortable when you reflect on your own mental health experiences or on the experiences of other men you know. If this is the case and you require support please see below.
What will happen if I no longer want to complete the questionnaire?
You can withdraw at any time when completing the questionnaire. If you no longer wish to continue you can close the tab and your answers will not be recorded. However once you click “Submit” we are unable to remove your answers from the data set as your information is anonymised at this point, and it will not be identifiable. We would therefore encourage you to take your time in ensuring you want to participate in this survey before proceeding.
We will keep this survey open until we have gained a substantial number of responses. When we have achieved this, we will close this survey.
What happens after I complete the questionnaire?
Should you wish to talk to someone after completing this survey, you can contact Shout by texting "Shout" to 85258 or get in touch with the Samaritans via 116123 (for all age groups). We would also encourage you to speak with a trusted professional e.g GP. And here are some websites you might wish to check out: Self Help, Shout and Get Self Help.
We intend to use the results from this survey to develop an internal report and determine what other questions we’d like to explore further. Participants will not be identified in any report, although quotes and free-text will be used anonymously.
