Brooklyn Center Zoning - Residential Standards Survey

WHAT IS A ZONING CODE, AND WHY IS BROOKLYN CENTER UPDATING IT?
  • A city’s zoning code is the legal foundation for setting the rules for what can be built, where it can be built, and how it is permitted to look. Zoning codes are intended to protect the health, safety, and general welfare of a community.

  • Zoning codes don't necessarily guarantee development will happen, but simply set the rules for what can and can’t be built throughout a city.

  • Brooklyn Center’s new zoning code is a full refresh of these rules. The current zoning code hasn’t had a major update since the 1960’s.

  • While most people will not experience many differences in their daily lives, the new code will allow for more options and clarity in how land can be developed and protected - including homes and businesses.

  • With this update, the city intends for a more efficient, equitable, and flexible process that benefits everyone.
WE NEED YOUR HELP

To be successful, the zoning code should support the needs and desires of city residents. As the city works to finalize zoning code details, it needs input from members of the community.

The following questions will ask about preferences for residential standards, which will help guide housing rules in the zoning code.
