2021-2022 World Languages Leadership Network District Profile

This form should be filled out by one person in the district - ideally the World Languages Director or the Curriculum Director -  to provide us with the best information to allow us to serve all districts.

Thank you for contributing to excellent world language instruction in the Commonwealth. So much has changed for World Languages in the past couple of years. From the LOOK Act and the Seal of Biliteracy, the adoption of the 2021 World Languages Curriculum Framework, and the first ever MA World Language grants, all in the context of an increasingly multilingual state and country, Massachusetts educational leaders are focusing more and more on the important field of world languages. To help districts prepare students for this landscape, DESE is offering quarterly convenings of the World Languages Leadership Network Meetings. We invite your district to attend and ask that districts invest this time in their world language leaders to advance this critical field of study.  Please direct any questions to Andy McDonie at d.andrew.mcdonie@mass.gov. Thank you.

4. Who should represent your district at the World Languages Leaders Network (WLLN)?
Note: We generally ask for teams of no more than 3 individuals. If the individual who supervises world languages is a world languages content expert, then that 1 person would suffice. If the WL supervisor is a principal/curriculum director/humanities director, etc. who does not have a content background in WL, we ask that they team up with a content expert or WL teacher leader to attend. Also consider Heritage Language Program directors, Dual Language Program directors, Elementary/Secondary World Language Program leaders, etc..
