Notice of Intention Survey

Notice of Intention Survey Instructions

1. COAMFTE New Standards Version 12.5 will be formally implemented on January 1, 2022.
  • Programs who have a self-study due during 2022-2024 will be required to submit under the new version 12.5 standards, are considered to be preparing under version 12.5, and may adopt those standards starting January 2022.
  • Programs who are submitting self-studies after 2024 and wish to transition to the new version12.5 standards can be “early adopters”.
  • Programs transitioning from version 12.0 to version 12.5 standards must completely align with the new version 12.5. Programs cannot choose to align with multiple parts of the COAMFTE standards.
2. The COVID-19 Emergency Accommodations expire on December 31, 2021.

3. Programs submitting a self-study after 2024 may choose to return to the version 12.0 standards.
  • The current version 12.0 standards do not allow for the use of teletherapy as part of the Foundational Clinical Practice Component. Programs maintaining the version 12.0 standards will no longer be able to allow students to count teletherapy hours to meet program clinical hour requirements after December 31, 2021, and the majority of the supervision must be conducted with the supervisor and supervisee physically in the same location.
  • Programs who wish to retain the use of teletherapy as part of the Foundational Clinical Practice Component will need to be an “early adopter” of the new version 12.5 standards.

4. Please complete and submit the following Notice of Intention Survey regarding accreditation compliance by August 15, 2021. This survey will guide programs to declare one of the following, based on the program’s plan starting January 1, 2022:

  • Return fully to pre-COVID 19 program operations under version 12.0 standards.
  • Maintain the version 12.0 standards with modifications made to the Foundational Practice Components changing from the 500 hours to the equivalency model found in KE IV-C. (Substantive Form)
  • Maintain the version 12.0 standards with modifications made to the curriculum delivery methods, changing from campus-based to hybrid or online delivery methods. (Distance Education Form and Substantive Form)
