Parking Changes

Parking Changes Survey

We’ve been asked to look at changing parking charges.
The New Plymouth Business and Retail Association and the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce have suggested NPDC provide one hour of free parking in the city centre and to extend paid parking to 7pm from Monday to Saturday.  Councillors agreed in principle that this could kick in from 1 October 2021 and to run till 30 June 2024 – but it’s not set in stone and we want to hear from you first.

What these mean
Parking in metered parking spaces would be free for the first hour. After that, the normal charge of $2 per hour would apply. Paid parking would also extend to 7pm on Monday to Saturday.

Time limits won’t change, so a P120 (two hours) space would still be limited to two hours.
