DESE 2021 Summer School Expansion & Engagement - Matching Grant - Indication of Interest/Intent Survey

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) plans to make available up to $15M in federal ESSER funds to support the development and expansion of high quality, comprehensive and engaging summer school/learning programs for students. Applicants will be expected to include some matching/cost-sharing by the district. It is anticipated that the grant will include a wide-range of fund uses to add more time or serve more students as well as enhance summer school/learning programs by including any of the following:
  • high engagement activities;
  • support for inclusive participation of students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs),
  • support for English learners,
  • support for students experiencing homelessness, in foster care and/or who are migratory;
  • mental health and social-emotional learning services;
  • enrichment/recreational activities;
  • transportation;
  • family engagement activities;
  • culturally responsive, anti-racist and welcoming environments; and
  • collaboration with local community-based organizations to support any of these priorities.
It is anticipated that districts may apply for up to $50,000 for one school/program OR up to $100,000 for two or more schools/programs (and must be serving at least 50 students to apply for more than $50,000). The final approved amount per entity will depend on the total amount requested.

The information submitted is necessary though to inform the eligible amount to be loaded into EdGrants for submission.
