ARPA Funding Priorities

Library of Michigan Survey on ARPA Funding Priorities

The Library of Michigan will receive funds from IMLS under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA). These funds will be available from this summer to September 30, 2022. ARPA includes one-time funding for libraries to help communities respond directly and immediately to the pandemic, as well as to related economic and community needs through equitable approaches.

The ARPA legislation and IMLS have set specific spending priorities and, as with LSTA funds, ARPA funds are subject to the existing federal and IMLS restrictions. For example, these funds CANNOT be used for construction, to buy food, or to pay for any subscriptions or services that extend beyond September 30, 2022.

LM needs feedback from the Michigan library community on the best use of the funds within these priorities. Thanks for sharing your insights and ideas in these early stages of planning! We will have more information to share soon.
