Pandemic operations note: Thanks to virtual tools, YWLP has continued and will continue mentoring local middle school students while following public health guidelines and the operating parameters of local schools and the University. We are currently planning to offer in-person mentoring in the Fall 2021, but are prepared to follow any changing guidelines as needed. We are proud to uphold our commitment to mentoring and and grateful for the partnerships that sustain our mentoring program. If your child is eligible for the COVID vaccine, please check with your healthcare provider or learn more from the Virginia Department of Health (https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/coronavirus/). Vaccination for youth is not required at this time to participate in the program.
All Big Sisters (Mentors) in the Young Women Leaders Program participate in an application, interview, and reference check process. In addition, each mentor undergoes a background check and extensive training and support during their time as a mentor in YWLP. Visit our website for more information (
