Qualifications and Requirements:

My company meets the qualifications and requirements necessary to participate in the program as outlined below:
  • At least one of my company’s current employees holds and will maintain a valid, current NCI certification in Residential HVAC System Performance. I also understand any field personnel collecting test data for the program must maintain a valid NCI certification in HVAC System Performance.
  • I agree to participate in training on how to use the ComfortMaxx™ software used in the program.

Test Instrument Requirements

  • We own the tools and instruments necessary to perform air diagnostics and testing. The instruments have current calibrations. The company owns at minimum the following instruments to support the implementation of NCI Certified System Performance™:

    • A manometer for measuring system pressures and pressure drops. Range should be 0” to 1” w.c. for an analog meter and 0” to 10” for a digital manometer with a scale reading 1/100ths of an inch. Manometers are to have the capacity to be calibrated and must have at least two pressure ports.
    • High quality thermocouples or temperature transducers that have the ability to be calibrated. Typical temperature range should include 0 to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. The display must read to 1/10th of a degree.

    • An accurate hygrometer reading humidity from 0 to 100% with an accuracy of + or – 2%.
    • Multi-meters serving one or more of the functions above, meeting all requirements stated, are acceptable instruments and may satisfy the requirements for multiple instruments.
    • A commercial quality calibrated digital air capture hood meeting NCI specifications of a minimum of 30 to 2000 CFM range, accuracy within 5%, and a 24”x24” skirt with a length no less than 30”.
    • A hot wire anemometer with an accuracy of + or – 3% and a minimum operating range of 0-3,000 FPM. The instrument must be able to be calibrated.
    • An electrical meter with a remote clamp for measuring Amps with a range of 0-600 volts, 0-100 Amps, and 0-100 Hz.
    • Multi-meters serving one or more of the functions above, meeting all requirements stated, are acceptable instruments and may satisfy the requirements for multiple instruments.

Terms and Conditions:

  1. NCI Certified System Performance™ is a voluntary program designed to be a useful tool in helping participating users test, diagnose, sell, repair, renovate, and certify HVAC systems. A participating user may discontinue involvement in the program at any time for any reason.
  2. National Comfort Institute, Inc. agrees to maintain participating user’s direct, specific customer information confidential, and agrees to only release this type of information to a specific third party at the request of, and with the direct approval of the participating user.
  3. Participating users agree and understand that NCI Inc. may use data collected through the program, without reference to specific user, homeowner or address information, to compile statistical reports for its own use, reporting to participating users, reporting to utility or government officials, or for other purposes.
  4. A user conducting business in a way that is in direct conflict with the Code of Conduct and/or the Terms and Conditions described will first be given an opportunity to justify and/or correct his/her actions or those of his/her employees. Repeated, intentional violation will result in suspension and/or permanent exclusion from the program.
  5. Should a user no longer be an active participant in the program, he/she agrees to immediately cease using all materials related to the program in marketing, selling efforts, field testing, and reporting of information both internally and external to his company.
  6. The dissolution of this agreement revokes all of the user’s (and his employees’) rights to use, National Comfort Institute, Inc. (NCI), copyrighted or trademarked materials provided in the program. Upon leaving the program the user agrees to return or destroy any collateral materials, blank forms, procedures, marketing materials, selling tools, etc., related to the program. In addition the user shall not use the NCI Certified System Performance™ logo, terminology, or other program-related images or terminology in his business dealings.
  7. Should a user no longer be involved in the program, and another valid NCI Certified System Performance™ program participant is servicing a system that already has data stored in the ComfortMaxx™ database, the qualified user, with the homeowner’s written permission, may request and obtain copies of reports containing the original testing data and results. NCI will not release, without the customer’s written permission, test information on their home or building.

Code of Conduct:


NCI Certified System Performance™ participating users strive to take all possible measures to ensure that HVAC comfort systems are properly installed, balanced, adjusted, serviced, and maintained to achieve optimum efficiency and safety levels.

NCI Certified System Performance™ participating users and their employees agree to:

  1. Abide by all quality standards and guidelines of National Comfort Institute, Inc. and the NCI Certified System Performance™ program.
  2. Follow standardized diagnostic testing and reporting procedures.
  3. Provide customers with documented system performance, comfort and safety repair recommendations and solutions.
  4. Complete testing and submit reports based on factual findings and report truthfully to the best of their knowledge and ability.
  5. Allow data to be analyzed and scrutinized both randomly, and when there is a concern about the accuracy or quality of the data being submitted.
I hereby agree to adhere to all of the conditions outlined in this application for participation in the NCI Certified System Performance™ program. Should I fail to do so I understand my participation may be suspended or revoked.
Applicant authorizes NCI to verify any information relating to the Company that it deems necessary. This authorization will be effective as of the date of the agreement for the purposes stipulated, and will remain in effect until NCI receives 30 days written notice of termination along with payment of fees for 30 days beginning the first day of the next month. Changes in the Company’s credit card information must be submitted to NCI no later than the last day of the month the change takes effect. Notice to Applicant: Applicant acknowledges that applicant has read the entire Agreement. Applicant acknowledges and agrees that upon acceptance by NCI this agreement (Including the Terms and Conditions on the original application) will become a binding contract between the parties.
