Disability Inclusion Survey - Staff Questions

Consultation questions - staff

Help us shape our Disability Inclusion Strategy and Action Plan.

We all have a responsibility to improve the experiences of our disabled staff and students and to do this we need to understand and learn from the perspectives of disabled people.

The University’s Disability Strategy Steering Group, chaired by Professor Brendan Stone, is developing an institution-wide strategy and action plan to bring about transformational change in disability* equality and inclusion.

The Steering Group brings together staff and students who live with disability and/or have relevant knowledge and expertise. The group includes representatives from staff and student networks, the Students’ Union, HR Organisational Development, Student Support Services, Campus Services, Digital Engagement, Faculty and Professional Services ED&I teams, and campus trade unions.

This consultation paper will enable you to help shape the strategy and action plan: to share your views on disability inclusion, provide feedback on work done to date and to propose actions to bring about positive change.

We will communicate the outcomes of the consultation and next steps towards the Disability Inclusion Strategy through Spring and early Summer. The Steering Group will incorporate the outcomes of the consultation into its ongoing work to produce a draft action plan to present to the Council Equality Diversity and Inclusion Committee in June.

Our students will be receiving a customised version of these questions later in the Spring. Although the consultation is primarily aimed at disabled people, it is open to all members of the University. We encourage everyone with an interest in progressing disability equality and inclusion to take part.

Please note: you can answer as many or as few questions as you like and there are no compulsory questions. The questions are a combination of tick box and free text - there are 51 questions in total. Regardless of how many questions you fill in, please do ensure you go to end of the survey and click SUBMIT.

The answers provided in this survey are for the purpose of the consultation only and is NOT a disclosure form. Your answers will remain anonymous and confidential.

To note:

Terminology

Both the terms ‘disabled staff’ and ‘staff with a disability’ are used to reflect and respect the differences in individuals’ choice of language and identity.

Mental Health

The disability inclusion work recognises the intersectionality of disability and mental health. However there will be separate working paths to make progress in both areas which is currently at different stages. Mental Health work has its own action plan being scoped out in relation to existing work. This will enable us to more easily capture the synergies of both, and also ensure the main focus of this work relates to - and is inclusive of -  the fullest definition of a disability.  A proposal has been agreed by Vice Chancellors Advisory Group (VCAG) to develop a joint Student and Staff Mental Health Strategy, taking a One University approach to supporting mental health in the working and learning environment.
