STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP AWARD & PROGRAM PILOT DESCRIPTION
Massachusetts community colleges and state universities are working with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), the Department of Higher Education (DHE), the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) and the Unaccompanied Homeless Youth Commission to conduct a scholarship program to address student housing insecurity and homelessness. This scholarship is offered in recognition of students’ resilience and proven ability to pursue an education despite socio-economic, racial, and other inequities. It is intended to support students who are committed to earning a college degree and pursuing career and life experiences that are meaningful to them.
This federally funded program pilot offers a housing scholarship for students entering college directly from high school. Upon applying to a state university or a community college participating in the program, students will be eligible for year-round campus housing (including summer and break housing), meal plans, as well as student services. Applicants may enroll at either a community college or a state university; those attending a community college would live at the nearest participating state university campus and commute to classes at the community college, and/or take classes online. Campuses participating in the Moving to College program include: Fitchburg State University, Mount Wachusett Community College, Framingham State University, MassBay Community College, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, Berkshire Community College, Salem State University and North Shore Community College.
