Chief Movement Officer Registration and Agreement 2020-2021

Focused Fitness (FF) in partnership with Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is recruiting teachers from the State of Virginia who serve K-12 students to participate in FF's Chief Movement Officer Cadre. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, November 10th.

The Chief Movement Officer (CMO) cadre is a group of health and physical educators from elementary, middle, and high schools from across Virginia who are responsible for creating best practices, sharing innovative teaching strategies, and disseminating best practices to other teachers in Virginia in an effort to build quality physical activity programs and increase movement opportunities for VA youth.

Who: The 2020-2021 school year CMO Cadre will work with other cadre members and local school personnel. Selection criteria will include, (a) teaching experience, (b) grade levels taught, (c) subject matter expertise, (d) personal statement, and (e) email support from school principal/assistant principal.

What: The CMO Cadre will meet to (a) receive professional development related, but not limited, to CDC’s Comprehensive School Physical Activity Program (CSPAP) model, and CDC’s Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child Model; (b) share best practices; (c) develop and implement school-based physical activity programs; (d) discuss existing supports and resources and make recommendations regarding physical activity programming in VA schools, and; (e) disseminate information and resources about physical activity programming to their schools and other schools in the State.

Outcomes: By bringing together local expertise, VA educators will gain a better understanding of physical activity best practices in the State as well as challenges facing educators when implementing physical activity programming. This feedback will allow the CMO Cadre, FF and VDH the opportunity to develop more effective and tailored programs at the school, division and state level.

When: CMO Cadre Members are expected to attend and fully participate in monthly Zoom meetings (November-May), deliver physical activity opportunities at their school (December-June), implement at least one training for other educators in their School or District (prior to June 30, 2021). The first kick-off Zoom Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 17th from 4:00-4:45pm. In addition, Cadre Members will have the opportunity to attend a professional development opportunity on CSPAP.

Compensation: All participants of the Leadership Cadre will be paid up to $500 for meeting the deliverables listed below, in addition to receiving professional development opportunities.
  • Attend or review recordings of monthly Zoom meetings scheduled for November 2020-May 2021.
  • Implement monthly movement opportunities (academic accelerators and brain boosts) for December 2020-June 2021.
  • Conduct a professional development opportunity for school or district teachers by June 30, 2021.
  • Track monthly deliverables with teachers and classrooms.
  • Complete a final CMO survey.
Registration Deadline: Interested educators should fill out the application and agreement below by Tuesday, November 10th.
