ABOUT THE WISE U PROGRAM

WISE U is a program of Cal Voices (formerly NorCal MHA), the oldest peer-run consumer advocacy agency in Northern California. We know what it takes to create lasting employment success for peers and we not only talk the talk, we have been walking the walk since 1946, when our agency was founded. For decades, Cal Voices has successfully hired, trained, supported, and advanced the careers of consumers, family members, parents/caregivers, and transition age youth (collectively referred to as “peers”) working and volunteering in California's Public Mental Heath System ("PMHS").

WISE U is a full-service peer support training and placement academy, offering a wide array of career planning and educational opportunities, as well as job coaching, placement, and ongoing support. The program has several components:

1. WISE U Application
2. Career Counseling
3. Peer Training Academy
4. Job Training/Field Work
5. Placement Assistance
6. Coaching and Support
ABOUT THE WISE U PROGRAM PROCESS

WISE U is an intensive 90-hour peer training program for California residents that is also a recognized National Certified Peer Specialist (NCPS) Approved Training.

Because WISE U is a program specifically designed to place participants in permanent full-time or part-time volunteer or paid peer positions, the process to apply, attend, and complete the training can be lengthy, but ultimately extremely rewarding.
As stated above the WISE U application is it's own section of the WISE U training program, as it is a full-length process. After applying you will hear back from a WISE U Career Mentor within 10 business days in regards to your eligibility determination.
If you have been determined eligible for the upcoming cohort you will then receive instructions for the upcoming cohorts mandatory orientation
After attending or watching the mandatory orientation you will take part in a scheduled readiness interview that determines your readiness for the intensive 90 hour peer training program.
Upon completing a readiness interview we request a LiveScan background check to be completed.
Upon receiving the results, we will determine your final eligibility for the program, and if accepted, will provide you with information on how to attend the 11-day in-person or 16-day virtual classroom training.
Upon completing the classroom training portion of the program you will have one month to complete 20-hours of supported fieldwork
Upon completing the classroom training portion of the program you will also have access to 6-months of career mentorship and placement assistance
Upon completion of the fieldwork portion of the program you will receive your WISE University Peer Support Training certificate of completion
You can also find all of this information on our website at www.wiseup.work.
