South Burlington Parks & Open Spaces Master Plans

Survey Introduction

The South Burlington Parks Master Plan and Open Space Master Plan seek to holistically assess the City’s current parks, recreation amenities, open spaces/natural areas, and land conservation opportunities through a comprehensive planning process that expands recreational access, equity, sustainability, human and habitat connectivity, and environmental quality.

For the purposes of this survey, parks are defined as city-owned and managed places that are open to the public for recreation and enjoyment, such as Red Rocks Park, Veterans Memorial Park, and more. Open spaces/natural areas are defined as ANY undeveloped land, either public or private, that is set aside for recreation, conservation, or natural resource protection, including areas like parks, forests, and wildlife habitats. For example, Wheeler Nature Park is a natural area. Private open space could be undeveloped land or land that is conserved by the Vermont Land Trust or other similar private conservation organizations.
