Welcome! Thank you for taking this survey. It will be open until December 6, 2021.
Purpose: The purpose of this survey is to find out more about the incarceration-related services and programs that libraries offer to people who are or have been incarcerated, their loved ones, and the general public. We want to acknowledge that the general public includes people who have been incarcerated.
Privacy: Your information will be as anonymous as the information you provide. Please skip any questions that make you uncomfortable. We are not collecting IP addresses. All the information you share will be stored securely and only accessed by the research team. We plan to analyze the data from this survey and write a publication sharing what we learned. In any publications, we will only use aggregate data, like averages, and will not use anything that could identify you as an individual, like your name, library, or the title of your program. We may use completely anonymous quotes if they exemplify a point. If we would like to use information that could be identifying, we will reach out to receive your explicit permission before proceeding.
We value your time! The time needed to take this survey depends on how many incarceration-related services your library offers. It could take just 10 minutes if you offer a couple of services, and up to 45 minutes if you offer a lot of incarceration-related services or programs.
Saving: You can save your progress and return to the survey later. Starting on the next page of the survey, you can click the “save and continue later” text in the top right corner of your screen.
Why: We want to learn about existing library services to people impacted by incarceration so that we can identify what programs exist, connect people who want to support each other, promote these services, identify barriers to creating these services, and determine how to continue supporting this work. We believe this information will help libraries develop programs and succeed in their efforts to serve people who are or have been incarcerated, their loved ones, and the general public.
Who we are: This survey is a collaboration between Dr. Jeanie Austin, Chelsea Jordan-Makely, Katie Fox and the Library Research Service team at the Colorado State Library, and Library Services to the Justice Involved (LSJI).
