Part 1 of 4: Current Experience

Welcome to the UK DEI Campus & Multicultural Space Survey. This survey is comprised of four sections.
Part 1 is geared towards understanding how you experience physical spaces on-campus, from the activities you participate in to how you feel about these spaces. For this set of questions, it helps to have spent some time in-person on the main campus in Lexington. Don't worry if you haven't had the chance to be on-campus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, or if you don't typically visit in-person. Answer these questions to the best of your ability, then move on to Part 2.

1. Where do you typically spend time with friends on campus? Do you like these spaces or do you see room for improvement? Please describe the building or room names, outdoor spaces, or other areas.
E.g. In 2019 I enjoyed spending time at The 90. This past year, I've been meeting my friends for outdoor walks in the academic core.

2. Where do you typically study (individually or in groups) on campus? Do you like these spaces or do you see room for improvement? Please describe the building or room names, outdoor spaces, or other areas.
E.g. I tend to study in the group study rooms in Young Library, and in my dorm room.

3. Where do you go to seek support on campus? Support services might include academic advising, casual conversations with a mentor, or visiting health services. Do you like these spaces or do you see room for improvement? Please describe the building or room names, outdoor spaces, or other areas where you seek support on campus.
E.g. I seek support at the Office of LGBTQ* Resources, which is a welcoming space but generally too small.

4. Where do you rest or relax on campus? Do you like these spaces or do you see room for improvement?

5. Where do you prepare or share meals on campus? Do these spaces exist? If yes, do you like these spaces or do you see room for improvement?

6. Where do you create or enjoy art on campus? Art may include visual and fine arts, but also performing arts like musical or theatrical programs. Do you like these spaces or do you see room for improvement? Please describe the building or room names, outdoor spaces, or other areas.
E.g. I like visiting the Singletary Center, but I don't create art on my own or with others.

7. Where do you tend to gather in small groups, between 5 to 25 people, on campus? Do you like these spaces or do you see room for improvement? Please describe the building or room names, outdoor spaces, or other areas.
E.g. I gather with my faculty and staff affinity group in meeting rooms all over campus, but most prefer meeting in the MLK Center.

8. Where do you tend to gather in large groups, between 25 to 100 people, on campus? Do you like these spaces or do you see room for improvement? Please describe the building or room names, outdoor spaces, or other areas.
E.g. I have been in large groups when attending lecture events in White Hall.

9. Please identify spaces on campus that inhibit your sense of safety. Safety can be interpreted as physical or emotional safety, or however you may interpret it.

10. Please identify spaces that inhibit accessibility across campus. In particular, are there areas of campus that are particularly steep, have lots of stairs, lack continuous sidewalks, or lack detectable warnings, etc.?

11. The COVID-19 pandemic has limited how students, faculty, and staff at UK have been able to interact with the campus and with each other in-person. Have you found ways to build community online, with your fellow students or colleagues? Can you briefly describe this? Or, what have been the major limitations?
