Thank you for your interest in learning more about the various controls available to improve jobsite safety in crane operations.
This tool offers a list of controls tailored to address the most significant hazardous situations contributing to serious incidents and fatalities (SIFs) within the crane industry. The list was compiled by searching relevant safety literature and collecting feedback from subject matter experts and practitioners in the crane industry. The controls provided are general recommendations and should be thoroughly evaluated to determine their suitability within your own organization.
Each control is categorized according to the Hierarchy of Controls, a method for identifying and ranking approaches to protect workers from hazards
(see below). The most effective controls are at the top of the hierarchy. While not always practical, eliminating or substituting hazards are the most effective. More common are engineering controls that isolate workers from hazards, administrative controls that change the way people work and personal protective equipment (PPE), which is the last line of defense.
