College Crash Course

This spring, the Youngstown State University Honors College is hosting a series of "College Crash Course" programs for high school seniors looking to develop both as students and as young adults. Master how to write a killer scholarship essay and advance as a leader. Talk to students, faculty, and staff about what to expect from (and how to succeed in) your college education. Learn about how to give yourself breaks, grow from failure, and much more! All workshops are designed to leave you with skills that will help you succeed as a college student and far beyond.

Check out our workshop options below, and register for those you'd like to attend. All events will be held remotely via Webex video conferencing.

How to Up Your Scholarship Game (Thursday, Jan. 28 at 4 PM)
The ultimate guide to finding and completing scholarships. We'll give you our best tips and tricks for seeking out ways to fund your education and to write winning essays.

What I Wish I Knew Before College (Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 6 PM)
Our students will give you the inside scoop on what they wish someone told them before they started college. (Tip 1: Don't put your alarm clock somewhere you can reach it!).

The Professor Is In (March 15 at 6 PM)
Professors aren't as scary as you think they are. Meet some yourself and find out! Hear from them about how to make a good first impression, get involved in research, and succeed in tough college courses.

Learning as a Leader and Growing as a Follower (Tuesday, Mar. 30 at 4 PM)
Being a leader doesn't always mean being the boss. Learn about different leadership styles, how to lead a group effectively, and how to be a great team player. Your future group partners will thank you.

How to Be Nicer to Yourself: A Lesson on Self-Care (Tuesday, Apr. 6 at 3 PM)
College means balancing classes, work, student organizations, nights out with friends, and nights in for family dinner. Just don't forget to take care of yourself while you're at it! Hear from our students about how important it is to forgive yourself, laugh at your at your mistakes, and take lots of naps (no, we're not joking).
